This piece takes inspiration from the imagery of Eve and the serpent:
“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
Genesis 3:15
For me, this scripture represents more than a battle. It speaks of opposition, resilience, and the strength to overcome adversity.
My interpretation of this piece has also been influenced by my involvement as a male ambassador for HASSL — Harassment Awareness & Safe Space Leaders. Through listening, learning and supporting conversations around women’s experiences and safety, I have gained a deeper appreciation of both the challenges many women face and the strength they demonstrate.
This influenced the way I wanted to portray the warrior. Not defined by the struggle, but by her response to it.
The armour represents resilience. The sword represents courage and the ability to stand against adversity. Yet the flower remains central — representing compassion, dignity and the belief that strength does not require the loss of kindness.
