Gethsemane is one of the most profound scenes in scripture.
In the quiet of the garden, Christ withdrew to pray. As He experienced the suffering that lay before Him, an angel appeared from heaven and strengthened Him.
This sculpture captures that moment. Christ is shown kneeling beneath the weight of what He is experiencing, while the angel supports Him in His hour of greatest anguish. A scene designed to make you think. This is not intended to be a definitive representation of what Jesus, the angel, or the people of scripture actually looked like. We don't know.
Almost every visual representation of scriptural figures that we encounter is someone's interpretation — an artist's interpretation of clothing, appearance, age, ethnicity, hairstyle, posture and even the way a particular moment might have looked. This sculpture is an interpretation too.
The purpose of the Scripture Miniatures collection is not to tell you exactly what these people looked like. It is to encourage you to think about the scripture itself.
When you look at Christ in Gethsemane, perhaps the important question isn't “Is this what Jesus looked like?” Perhaps it is: “What does this moment mean to me?”
The sculpture was designed specifically as a small-scale physical piece, with the composition carefully developed so that the story can be recognised through the figures' pose, relationship and silhouette. Rather than relying on a large title or explanatory plaque, the intention is that the sculpture itself communicates the scene.
From the front, the viewer sees the interaction between Christ and the angel.
From the side, the posture of Christ and the supporting presence of the angel become particularly apparent.
From above, the composition shows how closely the two figures are connected.
The result is a sculpture that rewards looking at from different angles.
Each sculpture is produced using high-resolution 3D printing and carefully finished by hand. The sculpture is printed in a bone-white/ivory finish to give it the appearance of a small traditional sculptural study while retaining the fine detail possible with modern 3D printing. Every piece is individually produced, checked and finished rather than being a mass-produced ornament.

Scripture Miniatures is a developing collection of small sculptural interpretations of moments and people from scripture.
The idea behind the collection is simple: The temple models are designed to inspire thought about the temple. The Scripture Miniatures are designed to inspire thought about the scriptures. They aren't intended as objects of reverence or as definitive depictions of scriptural figures. They are physical prompts for reflection — a way of taking a familiar scripture and seeing it from a slightly different perspective.
A sculpture for reflection
Christ in Gethsemane represents a moment of suffering, sacrifice, divine assistance and ultimately love.
Whether displayed in a home, study, office or given as a meaningful gift, it is intended to do more than simply occupy a shelf.
It is there to make you stop, look, and think.
